A Loving Gesture that made a Difference

Today I saw something that warmed my heart!

I was standing in line at the local food mart when I heard a child giggling in excitement. As I turned my head, I saw a wee-little girl running towards her mother. She looked so cute and couldn't have been more than 3 years old.

Her upper body seemed to be moving faster than her feet and it was obvious that she was about to go head-over-heels.

She was approximately 15 feet away from me. I instinctively reached out to no avail. Everyone standing near me did the same thing ~ as if our arms could stretch magically.

With a loud thud, she hit the floor hard. My heart dropped as her mother bent down and embraced her with a loving hug. All seemed calm a few seconds later. The little girl's eyes still pooled with tears clung to her mother's leg.

Then it happened! It was so unexpected and so beautiful that several of us let out an audible ~ "Awwwwwwwww!"

A little boy, again no older than 6 or 7 years old went over to the wee girl and gave her a hug. Immediately, the little girl smiled sheepishly and said, "I fall down." As if to ease her pain, the young boy kissed her gently on the cheek and said, "All better." Something his parents must have done to him in the past ~ and something he must have found comforting.

Everyone who witnessed this loving gesture left the store a better person ~ me included! May we always cherish their innocence and follow their lead by caring for one another?

Every day, try to reach out and touch someone.

Most people love that human touch - holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back ~ even from cyberspace.

To all of you {{{{{{{{{{{{ Hugssssss }}}}}}}}}}}}

  1. That's a lovely story, Sue! My eyes got all misty as I read it. Too many people go through life with blinders on. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I love hearing about stories like that; you see so much lax parenting these days, kids running through stores and yelling in restaurants and parents not seeming to care about parenting, that seeing something like this truly is heartwarming!! Good on those kids, and better on their parents. :)

I try to compliment three people a day -- well, that was easier when I worked in a large office building of hundreds! Now that I work with less people, I don't want to seem overbearing, LOL. But it's always nice to get a compliment!

  4. Awwww, that is so true, Susan. Everyone needs to be hugged, and let them feel how warm and comfortable it is to be hugged. The young boy could have seen it from his Mom, how to comfort someone when somebody's hurt. Free hugs!! Free hugs!!

    Hugs and kisses,

  6. These days so many of the stories I read in the papers are all about horror, pain, suffering. Thanks for helping keep the balance in my world! It is a lovely story. And I will definitely reach out and touch someone, starting now, with my husband.

  7. Thanks for sharing such a magical moment. It really is nice to hear good stories like that as opposed to all the bad in the world.

I really did get behind this weekend, sorry about that.

    Big hugs,
    Judy
